Donald E. “Gene” Elson, age 87, of Miami, MO, died Sunday, August 8, 2021, at his home.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. A private family service will be held and may be viewed after 8 a.m. Thursday, August 26, at www.campbell-lewis.com. Burial will be at Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall.

Born December 6, 1933, in Saline County, on the family farm, he was the son of the late Arthur L. Elson and Susie Arlene Burnside Elson.  Gene lived in Saline County most of his life and was a 1952 graduate of Slater High School.  On November 16, 1957 he married Sylvia A. Elder and they were the parents of two sons, Mendell L. Elson and Michael L. Elson.  On November 24, 1980, he married Elizabeth A. Summers who survives of the home. Gene was a longtime farmer and lawn care contractor and served on the board of directors for the Friends of Miami.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Elson of the home; one son, Mendell Elson (Anita); two granddaughters, Abby and Kayla Elson; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Elson; three brothers and one sister.
