Wanda Fay Malan, age 77, of Miami, Missouri, and formerly of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away peacefully at Mclean County Nursing Home, in Normal, Illinois, on Thursday, September 2.

Wanda was the daughter of Hugh Dan and Marie Fay (Lisby) Hamblen, born on September 29, 1943, in Carrollton, Missouri.

She graduated from Carrollton High School in 1961, and continued her education by attending the Saline County Career Center in Marshall, where she received her Licensed Practical Nursing Certificate. Wanda had the pleasure of working in a career she absolutely loved, and took care of many patients over the years at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall, and Marshall Rehabilitation Center where she retired after fifteen years of service. She married Robert Glenn Lake who passed away; and later married Walter Malan who also preceded her in death. Wanda was a member of Miami Baptist Church in Miami, Missouri.

She found great joy working in her beautiful flower gardens, bird watching,  taking care of her cat, Tilly, and her two dogs, Pepper and Patches. She was a wonderful mother to her ten children, and was proud of each one. She loved family gatherings, especially at the holidays when everyone came home to enjoy each other’s company.

Wanda is survived by her children, Robert Lake (Kim) of Spencer, Indiana, Fay Laselle (Robert) of Houston, Texas, Timothy Lake (Peggy) of Sturgeon, Missouri, William Lake (Billie Jo) of York, Pennsylvania, Amy Ess of Slater, Missouri, Mark Lake (Andrea) of Terre Haute, Indiana, Cathy Hatfield (Floyd) of Sedalia, Missouri, Sarah Poole (Robert) Scottsdale, Arizona, Rebecca Lake of Carrollton, Missouri, and Larry Goff of Sulphur Springs, Texas; three brothers, Danny F. Hamblen (friend, Shirley), of Marshall, Missouri, David Gene Hamblen (Brenda) of Slater, Missouri, and Frank Hamblen (significant other, Daisy) of Boonville, Missouri; twenty-four grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and her cat, Tilly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Marie Hamblen; both husbands, Robert Glenn Lake, and Walter Malan; and one still-born child.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on Monday, September 13, 2021, at Bittiker Funeral Home, 1201 North 65 Highway, Carrollton, Missouri.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 14,  at Bittiker Funeral Home, with Pastor Roger Mabrey officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, DeWitt, Missouri.
