During its meeting on Friday, September 17, the Marshall Municipal Utilities’ Board of Public Works approved a rate increase for its sewer customers.
But, in order for the rate increase to go into effect, the Marshall City Council had to approve it during its meeting on Monday, September 20.
MMU General Manager Jeff Bergstrom explained why the rate increase is necessary.
Bergstrom said the rate the customer pays is set during the winter months.
Bergstrom also said MMU has not raised the rate since 2012 or 2013.
The council approved the rate increase of 15 cents per 100 gallons of usage. For a typical customer, MMU says their monthly bill will increase by about $5.25- from $36.73 to $41.98.
The rate increase is scheduled to go into effect for the October billing cycle, and will be reflected on customer bills due in November.
