The Johnson County Clerk, Diane Thompson announced several candidate seats in the area will be open for election, during the April 2022 General Municipal election.

Due to a change in Missouri law, candidate filing for the April 5, 2022 General Municipal election will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday, December 7. Filing will continue during regular business hours with the last day of filing being at 5 p.m. Tuesday, December 28.

According to a press release, the new law reduced the number of weeks for candidate filing from five to three weeks and moved the first day of filing up by one week.

Candidates wishing to file for the following offices will do so in the County Clerk’s office.

Johnson County Ambulance District

  • Sub-District 2 for a three-year term
  • Sub-District 5 for a three-year term

Emergency Services Board

  • One trustee At Large for a 4-year term
  • One trustee Eastern District for a 4-year term
  • One trustee Western District for a 4-year term

Western MO Medical Center

  • One Trustee for a five-year period

Fire Protection District #2

  • One Director for a six year term

Southeast Sewer District

  • One Supervisor, for a five-year term

Blackwater Reorganized Common Sewer District

  • One Trustee, for a five-year term

City of Chilhowee

  • Mayor for a two-year term
  • Two Alderman At Large, for a two-year term

City of Centerview*

  • Mayor for a two-year term
  • Two Alderman At Large, for a two-year term
  • *Centerview City Clerk will also take filings by appointment

City officials say the order in which candidates will appear on the April ballot is determined by the order in which they file except on the first day of filing, the order will be determined by a random drawing. The names of candidates filing on the first day of filing for each office on each ballot shall be listed in ascending order of the numbers drawn, with the lowest number being first on the ballot.  Candidate filings after the first day of filing will be taken on a first come first served basis.

Proof of identity in the form of a Voter ID card, Missouri Driver’s License, birth certificate, or other form of certified or photo ID will be required for filing.

All other entities with board members up for election will take their own filings, to include all other cities, school boards, fire districts and water districts.
