Born November 22, 1942, in Marshall, MO, he was the son of the late George F. Malter and Anna F. “Doogie” (Stockman) Malter.  Don graduated from Malta Bend High School in 1960 and Missouri Valley College in 1964. He lettered four years in basketball while at MVC.  On May 16th, 1964, he married Olive (Creason) Malter who survives at the home.  Don taught history and physical Education in Meadville, MO before returning to Saline County where he farmed for more than 50 years.  He earned his private pilot’s license and flew all over the country for many years.  As a history buff, specifically World War II, he held special fondness for the aviation of that era. It was the thrill of his flying career to pilot a P-51 Mustang. He was also an avid hunter – taking many trips seeking trophies including elk, antelope, mule deer, white tail deer, moose, and bear. He was an excellent hunter, but the trips weren’t always successful. In those rare instances, he’d say, “Well, I didn’t get anything, but it was a great adventure.”

In addition to his wife, Olive; he is survived by two daughters: Donna Malter-Miller of Mission, KS and Leslie Rimmer (Jeff) of Raymore, MO; one grandson: Caleb Miller; one brother, Tom Malter (Roseann) of Malta Bend, MO; many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents.
