
Marshall’s City Council will be considering an ordinance to authorize a contract for trash collection by Rural Trash Service (RTS), based out of Slater, at the regular Council Meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 21.
City Administrator JD Kehrman has provided more information in the form of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about this potential change in trash services for the City of Marshall.
When will RTS take over trash collection for the City of Marshall?
– If the trash collection contract is passed, it will take effect on June 1.
What impact will there be on my trash bill?
– There will be no change to billing procedures and no increase in rates; this charge will continue to appear on your utility bill.
Will this impact when my trash and recyclable paper is collected?
– Residential collection schedules will not change. Ward One will continue to be collected on Monday, Ward Two on Tuesday, Ward Three on Wednesday and Ward Four on Thursday. Trash containers must be placed curbside by 6 a.m. April 1 – October 31. From November 1 to March 31, trash containers must be curbside by 7 a.m.
Will I still need to provide my own trash containers?
– Yes, you will still need to provide your own trash containers. Trash containers can range from 40 to 65 gallons, but cannot exceed 50 pounds per container.
Will yard waste still be collected April 1 through November 30?
– Yes, yard waste will still be collected and will remain on its current schedule- which is Ward Four on Monday, Ward Three on Tuesday, Ward Two on Wednesday and Ward One on Thursday. As a reminder, sticks must be bundled and kept separate from grass clippings and leaves.
What about bulk items; will they still be picked up as they are now?
– One bulk item per residence may be placed curbside for pick up on the first day of pick up each month. Bulk items include couches, mattresses, chairs other furniture, etc., and do-it-yourself remodeling materials such as carpet, paneling, sheet rock, etc. Additional bulk items can be picked up by appointment at an additional fee.
Whom do I call when I have questions or concerns about my trash service after May 31?
– Questions or concerns should be directed to RTS. It can be reached at (660) 784-2474.
What will happen to current Sanitation Department employees within the City of Marshall?
– Current Sanitation Department employees will be absorbed into the Municipal Services Street Department. Employees who wish to remain in sanitation will be offered employment by RTS.
