Carl Lewis Folkerts Jr., age 83, of Sedalia, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Bothwell Regional Health Center, surrounded by his family.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Sedalia, where the family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. A graveside service will follow at Highland Sacred Gardens Cemetery in Sedalia.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church. Memorials may be left at or mailed to McLaughlin Funeral Chapel, 519 S. Ohio St., Sedalia, MO 65349.

Carl was born December 24, 1938, in Glenwood, Iowa to the late Carl and Hilda (Gross) Folkerts, Sr. He attended schools in California and Tipton, MO and was a graduate of Tipton High School class of 1956. He went on to attend Jefferson City Community College.

On June 22, 1960, he married Mary Evelyn Pedego in Tipton, MO. She survives of the home.

Carl was a devoted member of Our Savior Lutheran Church since 1964. Over his many years of service there he served as usher, Elder, and President of the congregation.

Carl worked as a foreman of a gas crew for Missouri Public Service for 42 years. He belonged to IBEW, Local 814, for 60 years, serving as Chairman of the Executive Board for many years.

Carl and his wife enjoyed traveling in their retirement years with friends and taking many golf trips. He especially loved taking his grandchildren to Disney World and traveling through Europe with his family. He anticipated the arrival of the purple martins every spring and on most nice days, he could be found meticulously working in his yard.

Additional survivors include his daughters Lori Ciersdorff (Mark) of Overland Park, KS, Lynn Weber (Dave) of Camdenton, MO, and Carla Jones (Dan) of Weatherby Lake, MO; brothers John Folkerts of St. Louis, MO and David Folkerts of Carthage, MO; along with six grandchildren Ali Ciersdorff, Tessa Weber, Maeven Weber, Greta Jones, August “Gus” Jones, and Levi Jones.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Janet Elaine Folkerts and Carolyn Clifford.
