One of two persons charged with multiple felonies after a 47-year-old Warrensburg man was found dead of gunshot wounds on April 17 has appeared in court.

According to a release from Johnson County Sheriff Scott Munsterman, deputies responded to a rural Warrensburg address in the 100 block of SW 250 Road in reference to multiple gunshots being heard. When deputies arrived, they discovered Clifford Heffele deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. A second victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries from a single gunshot wound.

Authorities arrested Brandon L. Nodine, of Warrensburg, and a 17-year-old in connection with the homicide.

Court documents say Nodine is charged with felonies for second-degree murder, three counts of armed criminal action, burglary in the first degree, unlawful use of a weapon and tampering with a motor vehicle in the first degree. He is being held on a no-bond warrant.

According to the sheriff’s department, the17-year-old is charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, first-degree burglary, assault in the first degree and unlawful use of a weapon. The teenager remains in juvenile custody. No other information is available on the teenager’s case.

Nodine was arraigned and pleaded not guilty on Wednesday, April 20. A case review is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, at Johnson County Circuit Court.
