drug-take-back-day

The Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Tack Back Day events are one way to dispose of unneeded medications.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office has announced “National Take Back Day” is scheduled to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30.

Deputies will be in the northeast corner of the parking lot of Walgreens, located at 621 North Maguire in Warrensburg.

Authorities say you can simply drive up in your vehicle and hand the deputies your unwanted prescription drugs; or you are welcome to park and walk them up, as well. Liquid medications and syringes are not accepted for disposal.

Authorities say National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the public about the potential for abuse of medications. Unneeded prescription medications- those that are old, unwanted or no longer needed- are a public safety issue, too often becoming a gateway to addiction. The majority of opioid addictions start with prescription pills found in medicine cabinets at home. Pharmaceutical drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs when taken without a prescription or a doctor’s supervision.

Authorities add, a majority of people who misuse a prescription medication obtained the medicine from a family member or friend.
