During the meeting of the Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen this week, aldermen were asked to approve a street closure request for a family-friendly event.

According to unofficial minutes from the meeting, the Baptist Church is planning on holding its annual block party from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 22. The request is to have permission to close Main Street from Locust to Patrick Streets for the different activities. Aldermen voted to approve the request and close the street from 3 to 8 p.m.

The board also approved a request to close Miller Street from Main Street to the alley on Miller Street for the Fiber Festival on Saturday, May 28. A cattle drive is planned from Main Street to the rodeo arena.

In other news, the board approved a motion to pay for eCode360 Lite- for the online ordinances- for one year at $695. The other two options were for the Premium service at $1,195 and Standard at $995.

In addition, the board approved a bid from Lauren and Liz Fuehring for $500 to drag and $500 to mark the ball fields throughout the summer.

Also, the board gave Public Works Superintendent Nate Lea the green light to seek bids for the list of streets that need improvement.
