Two Independence residents were arrested and have been charged with felonies after a reported high-speed pursuit of a motorcycle on Thursday, June 16, in Pettis County.
According to a Pettis County deputy’s report, the pursuit reached speeds of 100 mph on U.S. Highway 65. The motorcycle became disabled when its chain broke. A K9 handler deployed K9 CAV and gave commands to the two motorcyclists to come to the deputy, and they did.
Authorities say they found some methamphetamine and marijuana, as well as other drug-related items- including a digital scale with methamphetamine residue on it- during a search of the bike and belongings. Timmothy Griffith- the driver- and Jewel Charlene Rowland- the passenger- were arrested.
According to court documents, each subject is charged with a felony for trafficking drugs in the second degree. Griffith also is facing a felony for resisting arrest, detention or stop by fleeing and a driving-related misdemeanor. Griffith’s bond is fixed at $35,000 and Rowland’s at $25,000 cash or surety.
An initial hearing for each subject is pending at Pettis County Circuit Court.
