The Slater City Council considered a bill to sign for new electric meter reading equipment.

City Administrator Gene Griffith says the new system update will allow the city to read the meters on cell phones or tablets.

The council authorized Griffith to sign a $36,500 purchase order for the new equipment. The money is set to come out of the electric and water budgets.

In other news, Mayor Stephen Allegri announced that the city’s trash service will run on Friday, September 9, instead of Thursday due to the Labor Day holiday.
