A Marshall woman was charged with a felony for domestic assault on Monday, January 23, 2023.

According to court documents, a Marshall Police Officer was called to a residence in regard to a physical disturbance. Upon arrival the officer observed a male victim retrieving loose clumps of hair from his scalp and reported that Monika Barton had allegedly pulled his hair out.

While talking to the victim, the officer noticed a laceration on his right forearm. The victim stated that Barton had allegedly attempted to stab him with an Exact o-Knife in the stomach and while attempting to block the knife was cut in the forearm.

Barton stated to the officer, that after an argument, the victim had attempted to stop her from harming herself so she attempted to stab him and stated the victim had pinned her down to stop her. Barton also stated the victim was asked to gather his belonging and leave. After throwing the victim’s belonging in the garage, Barton allegedly pulled his hair after the victim began picking the belongings up.

Barton was charged with a felony for second degree domestic assault and bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety with 10 percent allowed.

Barton posted 10 percent bond on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.

Barton has an initial court appearance scheduled for Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Saline County Circuit Court.
