UPDATE

A Kansas City man charged with multiple felonies after trying to flee from authorities on Friday, January 27, 2023 was arraigned on Monday, January 30, 2023.

According to Pettis County Sheriff Brad Anders, Sedalia Police attempted a vehicle stop in the area of U.S. Highway 65 and 16th Street on a silver passenger vehicle for equipment violations. The vehicle failed to yield to police as the driver traveled north. A Pettis County Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of Highway 65 and Swope Road. The vehicle continued north at a high rate of speed, with little to no traffic, failing to yield. Missouri State Highway Patrol was able to deploy stop sticks in the area of Highway 65 and BB Highway, deflating both passenger side tires. However, the vehicle continued north into Saline County and ultimately west on I-70.

As the vehicle continued west on I-70 at speeds of approximately 45 miles per hour with two flat tires, a second set of stop stick was deployed by Missouri State Highway Patrol which successfully took out the remaining driver’s side tires. Near the 65.2 mile marker on westbound I-70, the vehicle finally became fully disabled. The driver, 51-year-old Edward Ebert was taken into custody. As the officers cleared the vehicle, they located a female subject and a 6-month-old infant child in a booster seat. Both the female and child were later released from the scene.

Authorities located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in Ebert’s vehicle.

Court documents say Ebert was charged with felonies for endangering the welfare if a child in the first degree, possession of a controlled substance, kidnapping in the second degree, resisting arrest, and driving while suspended. Bond has been set at $250,000 cash or surety.

Ebert has a counsel status hearing scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2023.
