A Brunswick man was charged with multiple felonies after a reported domestic assault on Sunday, June 18.

According to a probable cause statement, a Chariton County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a residence in Brunswick where a woman stated that Travis Hawkins had allegedly assaulted her. According to the report the woman lives with Hawkins.

The woman stated to the deputy Hawkins had accused her of stealing and allegedly picked her up by the throat, choking her. Hawkins also allegedly signaled a dog to bite her and showed the deputy scratch marks on her back from the attack. The victim stated Hawkins then allegedly retrieved a rifle and pointed the firearm at the woman and pulled the trigger. The woman told the deputy that she had taken the bullets out of the rifle. Hawkins later allegedly threatened to kill the woman.

The woman recorded cell phone video of the incident which was viewed by the deputy.

According to court documents, Hawkins was charged with felonies for domestic assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. Hawkins has another pending felony case.

Bond was set at $100,000 cash only.

Hawkins was arraigned on Wednesday, June 21 and has a bond appearance hearing scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 11 at Chariton County Circuit Court.
