A Marshall woman has been charged with a drug felony in Cooper County.

According to a probable cause statement, on Friday, June 23 a Cooper County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with an expired license plate on M Highway. The deputy observed the female who had been driving the vehicle had switched to the passenger’s seat. The female, identified as Courtney Payne stated she had switched seats due to her license being revoked. Payne stated she was the owner of the vehicle and granted consent to search it.

During the search, the deputy located a small ziploc baggie containing a crystal substance in the trunk of the vehicle. The substance allegedly field tested positive for methamphetamine. Payne denied ownership of the baggie but stated she had used methamphetamine the previous day.

Payne has been charged with a felony for possession of a controlled substance.

No court date has been set.
