The Saline County Sheriff’s Department was made aware of a scam on Friday, August 10, targeting registered sex offenders residing in the county.

A business and individuals were contacted via telephone by a subject identifying himself as “Deputy Troy Johnson” telling the individuals they had warrants and attempting to obtain bank information to transfer funds for bond.

The department does not allow anyone to bond or accept funds for the purpose of bonds through the telephone. The agency does not have an employee by the name of Troy Johnson, although they do have a deputy with a similar name.

Should you receive a call from anyone identifying themselves as a sheriff’s department employee and have doubts about the validity of the call, contact the department at 660-886-5511.
