Judy K. Sherman, 78, of Slater, died Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 29, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at the Slater United Methodist Church, with Rev. Pam Sebastian officiating.  Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery, with Dalton Griffith, Corey Sanders, Dylan Smith, Tristian Griffith, Myles Jeffries, Tylere Dowell, and Kaden Brewer serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 Friday at the church.  Memorials are suggested to Slater City Cemetery in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.

Born May 19, 1945 in Saline County, she was the daughter of the late Russell H. and Dorothy Kiso Bailey.  On May 23, 1963 in Slater, she married James Griffith, and he preceded her in death on February 19, On August 15, 1970 in Slater, she married Richard Sherman, and he preceded her in death on May 11, 1989.

She is survived by two sons, James H. “Buddy” Griffith and his wife Kimberly, and Russell E. Griffith and his significant other Jenny, all of Slater; a daughter, Lori Jeffries and her husband Todd of Grandview; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Linda Brewer and her husband Dick of Marshall.  She was preceded in death by a grandson, Braden Crane.

Mrs. Sherman was a longtime member of the Slater Presbyterian Church until it’s closing.  She had served on the Slater City Council, Slater Cemetery Board, and was a member for many years of the Volkfest Celebration Committee.  She was a past-member and President of the Slater Rotary Club, and a 1963 graduate of Slater High School.  She was an agent for, and later owner of, Kiso Insurance Agency until her retirement.
