
A Marshall man has been arrested for causing property damage to one of the restrooms on the Marshall Parks and Recreation Property on Thursday, September 21.
A witness reported the damage at the North Point Shelter restrooms at approximately 9:30 a.m. September 21. Police investigated the scene and observed remnants of a fire on the floor of the bathroom, a broken paper towel and toilet paper dispenser, and a hole in the toilet stall wall. The damages cost an estimated $2,089.26 to repair.
Police reviewed security footage of the incident, where they identified a subject enter into the restroom multiple times. Police observed what appeared to be the glow of a fire in the restroom. Smoke also reportedly exited the restroom. The subject was identified as Shelton Posey.
Officers made contact with Posey on Sunday, September 24, where he allegedly admitted to starting the fire. Posey was in possession of the lighter used to start the fire, however, he denied the other damage caused to the restroom.
Posey has been charged with felonies for burglary in the second degree and knowingly burning or exploding. Bond was set at $7,500 cash or surety.
A confined docket hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 27 at Saline County Circuit Court.
