The Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen discussed a potential increase in water and sewer rates during its meeting on Monday, October 9.
The city has reportedly not raised rates for water or sewer since 2019.
The board is considering an increase due to the increased cost of supplies for the services. After some discussion, the board agreed to draft an ordinance with a $.50 increase in both water and sewer rates. The ordinance will be ready for the November meeting.
In other news, the board approved a street closure request for Halloween-related events on October 28. A costume contest, Trunk or Treats, and Costumes and Cocktails are all scheduled for that evening. The board approved closing South Miller Street from Marshall Street to Main Street from noon to 5 p.m.; and the alley on South Miller Street to Main Street from 5 p.m. to the end of the events on Saturday, October 28.
