Pettis County Eastern Commissioner Israel Baeza presented a proclamation, on behalf of the Pettis County Commission, to Washington Elementary School Principal Lisa Volk to commemorate the school’s 100 years at 12 p.m. Saturday, October 14.

Baeza highlighted the importance of recognizing this milestone by stating, “Living and attending church in this area, I get to see first-hand the impact that Washington Elementary has on the children of this community. Whether it is in the classroom or afterschool, this school has served as a hub reinforcing the strong sense of unity and belonging among our residents”.

Baeza concluded the presentation by thanking those in attendance during the ceremony by stating, “We are blessed to have this school with such a rich history in our community and it was important for us to recognize this milestone and every single student and member who has played a role in its success during the past century”.

Washington Elementary built in 1923 is one of the five elementary schools in Sedalia and is part of the Sedalia 200 School District. The school houses around 270 children from Kindergarten to fourth grade and serves as the only school located in Second Ward of the City of Sedalia.
