SFCC collaborated with regional community schools and community volunteers to host the third annual Innovation Challenge for Entrepreneurs (ICE) on February 23 at the Fielding building on the SFCC campus. Over 40 students from six different Middle schools competed including: Marshall, Smithton, Republic, Wydown, McKinley, and Laura Speed Elliot.

During the event, student teams were tasked with creating a new innovative product that they then presented and “pitched” to a panel of judges made up of community volunteers including local business professionals. Trophies and prizes are awarded to the teams with the top three innovations. This year’s first-place winners were Blake Wilson and Tyler Poelker (Wydown), second-place winners were Meg Linsenbardt and Aleks Simic (Marshall), and the third-place winners were Mike Milchanowski and Sam Gruber (Wydown).

SFCC business instructor, Curtis Hartley who helped coordinate the event said, “The Innovation Challenge for Entrepreneurs is such a great opportunity for community outreach, not only does it allow students in middle school present an idea they are proud of, but it also provides them an opportunity to see all the neat things SFCC has to offer.” SFCC collaborates with education, government, and business partners to advance the prosperity of individuals and communities.
