Current Return To Top Of NWSL Standings
The Kansas City Current netted two goals early in the second half to put away the Seattle Reign 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at CPKC Stadium.

With the score tied 2-2 at the half, midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo scored the go-ahead goal less than a minute into the half. Temwa Chawinga recorded the assist, then scored her second goal of the match just a minute later. It was a change of pace for the Current, who scored two equalizers to keep pace with the Reign in the first half.  Captain Lo’eau LaBonta and defender Lauren also accounted for the Current’s goals, who return to the top of the NWSL table and remain undefeated on the season. The win moves Kansas City level with Orlando on 28 points.

The Current stay home for their next contest, welcoming the Chicago Red Stars this Friday evening at 7.

Battlehawks Fall In XFL Conference Championship
The St Louis Battlehawks fell behind early and could not keep pace with the San Antonio Brahmas, ultimately seeing their season come to a close Sunday night in the XFL Conference Championship with a 25-15 loss.

Despite a pick on the opening possession, the Battlehawks defense struggled to keep up with San Antonio quarterback Chase Garbers, who threw first-half touchdown passes of 15 and 63 yards. Anthony McFarland slashed through the Battlehawk backfield in the third quarter with a 69-yard touchdown run. The Battlehawks attempted to make it a game with Jake Sutherland’s one-yard catch for a touchdown, while linebacker Pita Taumoepenu followed that up with a scoop-and-score. However, two Brahma field goals dashed the Battlehawks’ dreams of playing at home for the UFL Championship.

The Battlehawks’ season concludes with a 7-4 record. San Antonio and Birmingham will play for the first UFL title next Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Dome at America’s Center in St Louis.
