The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Texas Rangers 10-1 behind a strong performance from rookie Micahel McGreevy on Wednesday, July 31.
McGreevy got the call up after Lance Lynn was placed on the 15 day IL. McGreevy made a strong first impression, going seven innings of one-run ball to pick up the first win of his MLB career.
McGreevy got plenty of run support, as the Cardinals scored ten runs on 14 hits. Brendan Donovan brought home the first run with a single, then Pedro Pages brought in the second run with a fielder’s choice. Michael Siani added an RBI sac bunt to score another.
The Cardinals added five more runs in the fifth, and two more in the seventh. Tommy Pham had three hits and drove in two runs, continuing to stay hot since returning to St. Louis.
St. Louis takes two out of three in the series, and improve to 56-52 on the season. The Cardinals are five games back of the Brewers for the division lead, and one game back of the Mets and Diamondbacks for the third wild card spot.
