The Odessa Police Department received a report regarding a potential threat to the Odessa R7 School District on Tuesday, September 10.
The report came from a rural Lafayette County family whose children are enrolled in the Odessa School District.According to a release, the report concerned a social media post that suggested a threat to the safety of district staff and students. Police say that Odessa was not directly mentioned in the post, but there was still cause for concern.
Odessa police quickly launched an investigation and spoke with school administration. Investigators found that the social media post appeared to be screenshots of information that had already circulated in the Kansas City area during recent events.
The Odessa Police Department says it will maintain a presence in the schools, and that there may be an increased police presence in Odessa as a precaution.
