The defending World Champion Team SCREAM robotics program at Smith-Cotton High School prevailed at their home tournament this past weekend in Sedalia.

Team SCREAM (4522) joined forces with Team Argos (1756) of Peoria, Ill. and Little Apple Cyborgs (5968) of Manhattan, Ks. to sweep through the playoffs of the 36-team tournament. Captain Morgan Withers says her squad overcame some obstacles to win their first contest of the season.

Withers says this year’s challenge is called Reefscape, which features multiple challenges for each team’s robot to solve.

Withers adds that Team SCREAM was able to make enough improvements during the weekend to earn the invitation to ally with top-ranked Argos. She says she’s thrilled to have another championship banner to hang in the rafters, especially one earned at home.

Team SCREAM has already booked their spot in the FIRST World Championships in Houston next month. They’re set to compete this weekend in Sacramento, Calif. and later this month in Oklahoma City.
