After a five-day, 22-game marathon on the Joe Kleine Roscoe White Court, the 45th Slater Wildcat Classic provided the same champions as the 2025 edition, with the Brunswick boys and Carrollton girls leaving Slater with tournament titles.

Saturday’s title contests saw Brunswick stop Glasgow, 69-58 to claim the boys’ crown after Carrollton had fought off Glasgow’s Yellowjackets, 52-48 in the girls’ finale. Wrapping up the week, the victorious Wildcat boys unleashed a balanced attack that had five people reach double figures as they were ahead throughout. Brunswick held leads of anywhere from eight to 14 points most of the way after being on top, 20-10 following one quarter and then 36-28 at intermission. During the final half, every time Glasgow began to gather momentum, the Wildcats would respond with a dunk or a steal and a score to keep the Yellowjackets at arm’s distance.

Improving to 16-3 on the year, Brunswick saw Balston Brown score 17 points while Drew Jackson added 15 with Makhien Falls, Tae Brown and Clay Hayward tossing in 13, 12 and 10 tallies respectively. En route to claiming their third straight Wildcat Classic championship, the CLAA school has now won 10 consecutive games on the Slater floor. It was the Wildcats’ second victory of the season over the Yellowjackets after they had also defeated them, 60-53 just before Thanksgiving.

Likewise 16-3 overall, Glasgow saw a 14-game winning streak come to an end despite 33 points from Jackson Meyer with another 11 provided by Bronson Foster, both of whom found themselves in early-game foul trouble. It was quite a week for the Yellowjackets’ Jackson Meyer who scored 96 points in all after tallying 23 during his team’s first-round win over Jamestown before throwing down 40 when Glasgow beat Carrollton in the semifinals.

The girls’ championship game followed a similar script with the Carrollton Trojans grabbing the lead during the first quarter and never relinquishing it. The MRVC East member was ahead 13-7 after one period and then 29-20 at the break. The Yellowjackets did trim the deficit to six, 46-40 with less than four minutes to go and then 52-48 at the buzzer, but that was as close as they could get.

Avenging an earlier 38-32 loss to Glasgow in the third place game of the Salisbury Tournament, Carrollton’s girls are now 16-2 overall after firing home seven three-pointers during the opening half and ending up with nine for the day. Emmy Lock tossed in 15 points while Jenna Owen and Taylor Pierson both added 12 for the winners. Glasgow dropped to 14-6 on the year as they also had a game where they knocked down nine threes with eight of them coming from Halle Fuemmeler who generated 29 points despite the loss.

In Saturday’s other Wildcat Classic trophy-game results:

  • Boys’ third place honors went to Carrollton who posted a 69-55 win over Pilot Grove.
  • Jamestown’s girls also won third place for the week as they improved to 18-3 on the year after stopping Brunswick, 59-44.
  • Boys’ consolation was claimed by Slater, thanks to their 62-47 victory against Jamestown.
  • Kicking off the day were the Santa Fe Chiefs, who earned the consolation trophy in their bracket by winning 44-29 over the Slater Wildcats.
