Another brutal outing for Dustin May left the St. Louis Cardinals in a big hole early, as the Detroit Tigers took care of business with an 11-6 win Saturday afternoon at Comerica Park.

Just like his first start against the Rays, May got hit early and often, allowing three runs in the first, one in the third, and three more in the fourth before being pulled. He took his second loss of the season by allowing seven runs on seven hits and two walks in 3.1 innings of work.

The St. Louis offense did its best to fight back, with Jordan Walker putting the team on the board in the third with an RBI single. Detroit starter Jack Flaherty ran into more trouble in the fifth, giving up an RBI double from Alec Burleson and then walking Nolan Gorman to load the bases. Flaherty was lifted for Drew Anderson, who proceeded to give up a grand slam to Walker, which trimmed the lead to 7-6 at the time.

Detroit’s hitters continued to attack the Cardinal bullpen, scoring runs off of Justin Bruihl and Matt Svanson in the fifth and seventh, then adding two more off Chris Roycroft in the eighth to make it 11-6.

The Cardinals drop to 4-4 and will look to salvage the final game in Detroit tomorrow (Sunday) evening. Kyle Leahy will get the start against Keider Montero. First pitch will be at 6:20 p.m.
