Dustin May had another strong start, helping the St. Louis Cardinals defeat the Cleveland Guardians 5-3 Wednesday afternoon at Busch Stadium.

May gave up an RBI single in the first to Kyle Manzardo, then settled in nicely to finish with six innings and four strikeouts. The Cardinals tied the game in the bottom of the second thanks to an RBI hit from Pedro Pagés.

St. Louis broke the deadlock in the sixth inning with a sac fly from JJ Wetherholt and a two-run single from Alec Burleson. Cleveland got two of those runs back in the seventh off of Justin Bruihl, but stranded the tying run in scoring position.

Nathan Church gave the Cardinals an insurance run in the eighth with an RBI double, making it 5-3. Riley O’Brien pitched a spotless ninth to pick up his fifth save.

Jordan Walker extended his hitting streak to eleven games with a double in the eighth inning.

The Cardinals improve to 10-8 on the season. After an off day Thursday, the Cardinals will travel to Houston to open a three-game series with the Astros.
