Kansas City’s bats finally woke up, but the Detroit Tigers were still able to sweep the series with a 10-9 walk-off victory at Comerica Park Thursday afternoon.

Detroit got on the board first in the second inning with an RBI double from Spencer Torkelson. After trading runs in the fourth, the Tigers put up four more runs on the board, knocking Kris Bubic out of the game after just 4.2 innings. Bubic gave up five runs on six hits and three walks.

The Royals got a run back in the sixth thanks to a sac fly from Salvador Perez. Kansas City rallied in the seventh, getting RBI hits from Jac Caglianone, Maikel Garcia, and Bobby Witt Jr. before capping the six-run frame with a three-run homer from Perez. The Royals were able to take an 8-6 lead after the homer.

Vinnie Pasquantino contributed a solo homer in the ninth to give the Royals a 9-7 lead. Lucas Erceg came on for the ninth, who immediately gave up a hit and a walk to start the inning. Erceg rebounded to get the next two outs, but then allowed a game-tying two-run double off the bat of Riley Greene. The very next batter, Colt Keith drilled a single to right field to score Greene and walk it off for Detroit.

Erceg was given his first loss and first blown save of the season. Connor Seabold picked up the win, despite allowing a run in the ninth.

The Royals fall to 7-12 on the season and have now dropped four in a row. The Royals will continue its road trip on Friday, traveling to the Big Apple to start a three-game series with the New York Yankees. Michael Wacha will take the mound against Cam Schlittler. Pregame coverage will begin at 5:30 p.m. on KMMO AM 1300, with first pitch at 6 on FM 102.9.
