Several schools have announced early dismissal times in anticipation of severe weather rolling through the KMMO listening area Friday, Apr. 17, 2026.
The precaution comes as the National Weather Service says a strong cold front is bringing strong winds and potentially damaging storms. Meteorologist Ryan Cutter at the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill provides a projected timetable for the system’s arrival.

Cutter says while the possibility exists of a tornado spawning, the greater risk is from straight line winds and damaging hail.
