
The Marshall High School baseball team wrapped up a successful weekend at its own tournament, posting wins over Sacred Heart, Oak Grove, and Boonville.
The Owls got the tournament started Friday morning in pool play, defeating the Sacred Heart Gremlins 5-3 behind a complete-game from Brody Kueker. The game was tied 2-2 heading into the seventh, where the Owls rallied for three runs courtesy of RBI hits from Kelar Pointer and Kye Wilcoxson, as well as a sac-fly from Ayson Bolling.
The Owls then took on the Oak Grove Panthers, coming out on top in a 16-15 slugfest. Marshall’s offense was powered by Wilcoxson’s four hits as well as two triples from Chase Thompson.
On Saturday, the Owls defeated the Boonville Pirates 11-4 to wrap up tournament play. Brock Marshall picked up the win after going five innings and allowing four runs. The Owls’ offense stayed hot, scoring 11 runs on 13 hits. Wilcoxson closed out the game with two perfect innings in the sixth and seventh.
The Owls improve to 9-7 on the season and will travel to Kirksville on Tuesday, April 21, for an NCMC clash with the Tigers.
Also on Saturday, Oak Grove crushed Sacred Heart 16-0 in three innings to rebound after its narrow loss to Marshall. Summit Christian Academy also won Saturday, knocking off Chillicothe 8-4.
