The Kansas City Royals whimpered out of the Big Apple without a run on the scoreboard Sunday, Apr. 19, shut out by the New York Yankees 7-0 to go winless on their road trip and fall to the worst record in the American League.

Cole Ragans allowed a career-high eight walks in his 4.1 innings to take his fourth loss of the season, as he allowed all seven runs on just four hits. Three of those hits were home runs, starting with a two-run blast in the first by Aaron Judge, a solo shot by Ben Rice in the second, and a three-run bomb by Trent Grisham. A walk to Cody Bellinger in the first also scored when he was brought home on a sacrifice fly.

The Royals tried to get into the game, with Bobby Witt Jr and Elias Díaz each going two-for-three. Both of them had a double, with Witt’s double leading to the final out of the sixth when the throw to home plate beat Díaz. Ryan Weathers pitched into the eighth inning for the win, striking out eight batters and allowing just five hits and a walk.

The Royals fall to 7-15, tied with the Mets for the worst record in the majors. The two also have the longest active losing streaks, with Royals dropping their last seven and the Mets their last 11. KC will hope home provides the spark to right the ship, as the Royals host Baltimore on Monday for the start of a three-game series. Seth Lugo gets the start for KC against Kyle Bradish. First pitch is at 6:40 p.m., with pregame at 6 p.m. on KMMO-FM 102.9.
