The Sedalia City Council made a change Monday, Apr. 20 in the final meeting with Andrew Dawson as mayor, selecting a new location to dispose the city’s garbage.

The council signed off on a three-year contract for the city to take residents’ trash to the Show-Me Regional Landfill east of Warrensburg. City administrator Matthew Wirt says while the current landfill just outside Sedalia bid $2 per ton lower, the city’s sanitation crews reported a better experience with the haul further west.
.

Wirt says the city conducted a first-hand comparison, where sanitation crews took the city’s trash to Show-Me Landfill for a week.

The city will pay Show-Me Landfill $33 per ton, inclusive of all fees. After the initial three years, the city and will have the option to renew the agreement in one-year intervals.

The council’s business Monday took place prior to Andrew Dawson adjourning the council sine die and relinquishing the gavel. Traves Williams was sworn in as mayor, following his election earlier this month with nearly 64 percent of the vote. David Covington and Spencer Redford were sworn into their first terms on the city council, while Cheryl Ames took the oath of office for the second year of her unexpired term, and Tina Boggess and Jack Robinson returned for another term. During the reorganization portion of the meeting, Boggess was selected as the mayor pro tem, and Robinson was selected to represent the city on the Planning and Zoning Commission.
