Moberly Fire Chief Don Ryan recognized firefighter Jamarryon Jackson with the Award of Valor for extraordinary actions taken in the line of duty during the meeting of the City Council on Monday, April 20.

The incident occurred in November 2025, when Mobery Fire was dispatched to a structure fire on Shumate Avenue with reports of an occupant trapped. Upon arrival, a male occupant of the home reported to Fire Command that his mother was still inside. Jackson was instructed to make an emergency solo entry and conduct a primary search for the individual. Jackson entered the structure and was able to locate the victim and carry her out of the structure.

Community Relations Manager Scott McGarvey says the Fire Department and City Council were eager to present Jackson with the Award of Valor for his bravery.

According to the fire department, this type of rescue is known as “making a grab.” The department says fewer than ten percent of firefighter achieve it over the course of their careers.
