The scholar bowl team from Lafayette County High School is once again embarking on a trip to Chicago this weekend for the Small School National Championship Tournament.
The Huskers once again posted a second-place finish in the Missouri River Valley Conference tournament last month, and claimed a 6-3 record at the Roadrunner Scholastic Tournament at State Fair Community College in January, to book their spot at nationals. Junior Marshall Ridinger and senior Nora Knipmeyer tell KMMO News the Huskers are hoping to improve on last year’s performance.
.
The Huskers return everyone from the squad that went 6-6 last year at Chicago. Ridinger had close to 34 points per 20 tossups heard last year and says he’s preparing by brushing up on his history and geography.
With Lafayette County falling to Butler in their Class Three district tournament last weekend, that means the trip to Chicago will be Knipmeyer’s last event as a Husker. She reflects on her years with the program and the friends she’s made.
Lafayette County is among 13 teams from Missouri competing in the public division. Hallsville, Skyline, Southern Boone and Weaubleau will also represent Missouri in the field. Teams will have ten preliminary round contests Saturday, and teams with at least six wins will advance to Sunday’s double-elimination playoffs.
