
Carrollton remains the only team still unbeaten in MRVC-East Conference action after they traveled to Higginsville Thursday and blanked the Huskers 5-0 in high school baseball action heard on KMMO-AM.
With the victory, the Trojans have won five straight as they improved to 4-0 in league play and 12-2 overall, good enough to be ranked eighth in the latest Class 3 statewide poll. Carrollton holds a one-game lead in the loss column in the conference standings over Knob Noster as the Panthers are currently 5-1 against league opponents after winning at Holden last night.
For Higginsville, it’s a rebuilding year with the Huskers falling to 1-5 in the MRVC-East and 1-12 on the season. The Trojans notched their victory by scoring three times in the third and then twice more in the sixth. With runners at first and third and one out during the third, Max Braun singled, driving in Carrollton’s first run of the contest. One out later, Sawyer Stark slapped a single to left, scoring two more as the Trojan lead grew to 3-0.
Then in the sixth, Carrollton had runners at second and third with one out when Logan Strain’s ground ball sent home one run preceding a Liem Potter single which closed out the scoring at 5-0. The Trojans won the game with five runs on nine hits. Maddux O’Doniel had three hits and scored twice with Liem Potter also banging out three hits as he dented home plate once and drove in another. Higginsville had only two base runners during the first six innings before seriously threatening in the seventh.
A single and two errors loaded the bases with no one out in the final frame before a pop up and then a ground ball double play wrapped up the shutout and the win for the visitors. Cason Kipping pitched the first three innings as Logan Strain fired the last four on behalf of Carrollton. They teamed up to throw a two-hitter while striking out eight. The only Husker hits were singles by Levi Kroesen and Owen Wood. Higginsville had just one runner advance as far as third base during the game. Levi Kroesen pitched six innings for Higginsville while Dalton Johhson was on the hill for one frame, teaming up to scatter nine singles in all.
