Discovery of more corrosion and weather delays have resulted in the Sedalia City Council approving a new target date for completion of repairs to the Washington Street Bridge.

The council voted Monday, Apr. 20 to change the completion deadline to June 22 for Double Arch Construction to complete the repairs to the century-old span over the Union Pacific Railroad. City administrator Matthew Wirt says the contractor has provided regular updates on their progress, including each additional discovery of corrosion.
.

The council also adopted a second change order for an additional $26,399.40 to replace columns where corrosion was recently discovered. Wirt warned that crews may uncover even more issues as they move to the next step of the project.

Double Arch presented photos of the corrosion and work progress during a Public Works Committee meeting. The city has since posted the presentation online.
