The Missouri Department of Transportation says the Missouri River Runner will have additional capacity on its trains across the state during this summer’s FIFA Men’s World Cup.
MoDOT and Amtrak say that the cars will increase each train’s capacity by 25 percent, allowing more passengers to take the train to and from Kansas City to attend the six games taking place at Arrowhead Stadium and participate in the FIFA Fan Fest at Liberty Memorial. The additional cars will begin running by June 15, and remain in place until July 12, 2026, the day after Arrowhead hosts one of the quarterfinal matches.
The Missouri River Runner runs two times per day from Kansas City to St Louis, with one of the trains continuing to Chicago as part of the Lincoln Service. The train makes stops in Warrensburg and Sedalia. Amtrak also operates the Southwest Chief through Missouri, making one stop each day in Kansas City and La Plata as part of their long-distance route from Chicago to Los Angeles.
