Eduard Löwen notched a goal and contributed to another in the second half to lift St Louis City SC past the Chicago Fire 2-1 on the road Wednesday, Apr. 29, leading City into the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The game was scoreless at half before Chicago’s Anton Salétros opened the scoring for the hosts in the 64th minute. Löwen sent a shot toward goal seven minutes later, where Tomas Totland took the ricochet and tapped another shot that went into goal. The game-winner came in the 78th minute with Löwen’s right-footed shot going into the top right corner.

City learned at Thursday morning’s draw that they will host the Houston Dynamo in the quarterfinals either May 19 or 20. Should City win, they’ll have to wait until mid-September to either host San Jose or travel to Colorado for the semifinals. The finals will take place Oct. 21.

Meanwhile, City will visit Austin on Sunday, looking for their second win of the season. They are currently two points ahead of Sporting Kansas City in the basement of the Western Conference standings.
