Team SCREAM suffered an early exit from the playoffs of the Johnson Division at the FIRST World Championships in Houston on Saturday, May 2.

The Smith-Cotton robotics team was the lone undefeated team in the division heading into the double-elimination playoffs, selecting ALT-F4 from North York, Ont., AtomStorm from Shenzen, China, and the Botbusters from Monterrey, Mexico to form their alliance. Team SCREAM’s bot experienced what the team called an electrical issue at the beginning of their match against the eighth-ranked alliance, which left it immobilized for the contest. Team SCREAM’s alliance then fell to the elimination bracket, where they waged a close contest against an alliance led by the Steel Dragons from Pennsylvania, but came up short. However, Team SCREAM will return to Sedalia with hardware, as they won the division’s Autonomous Award.

Team SCREAM Jr went 6-4 in the preliminary rounds of the Galileo Division, but was not selected for an alliance in their playoffs.
