The Missouri State Highway Patrol and Marshall Fire Department responded to a one-vehicle accident involving a 78-year-old Columbia man Thursday morning in rural Saline County.

MSHP states the accident was reported at 10 a.m. when a minivan driven by the Columbia man traveled off the left side of Highway D, struck a ditch, and then overturned. The driver was reportedly trapped inside the vehicle following the accident. The Marshall Fire Department was dispatched to the scene and used cutters to cut the A Post on the passenger side then cut the roof from the passenger side down to the driver side. The roof was then pulled down and the victim was removed from the vehicle.

The driver was taken to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment of his injuries. The accident was reported just north of 230th Road in Saline County. The scene was cleared at 10:56 a.m. by troopers and Marshall Fire.
