A 20-year-old Moberly woman is facing felony charges after stealing a patrol vehicle and fleeing from law enforcement on Thursday, May 7.

A probable cause statement says that Alayna Leann Mason was detained by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday and was cuffed and placed into the front passenger seat of a deputy’s patrol vehicle. While in custody, Mason allegedly stole the vehicle and fled from law enforcement. Multiple department-issued and personally owned firearms were inside the vehicle at the time it was stolen, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities located Mason inside a Moberly residence at 9:05 p.m., where she was reportedly hiding and refusing to comply with commands from law enforcement officers. Mason was found still wearing the handcuffs on each wrist, which had been damaged and cut. Mason admitted to spontaneously stealing the patrol vehicle while in custody.

Mason has been charged with stealing a motor vehicle, stealing a firearm, and attempted escape from custody while under arrest for a felony. She is being held without bond. Arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 11 at Randolph County Circuit Court. Details on why Mason was initially detained by law enforcement have not been released at this time.
