A Saline County man is facing multiple federal charges after his arrest Tuesday, May 12 by the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
The U.S. Department of Justice accuses 40-year-old Jordan Derrick of manufacturing explosive materials without a license, unlawful possession of an unregistered destructive device, and distributing information relating to their manufacture. According to the department, Derrick began distributing videos in September 2023 of himself making a variety of explosive materials, providing step-by-step instructions. Investigators say the videos were viewed by Stanley Box, the 74-year-old Odessa man who is facing state charges after an explosion at his apartment earlier this month.
The FBI says Derrick’s videos were also used by Shamsud-Din Jabbar to build improvised explosive devices for use in his truck attack on the French Quarter of New Orleans on New Year’s Day 2025. While the devices did not go off, Jabbar was still able to kill 14 people and injure 57 others when he drove into pedestrians along a three-block stretch of Bourbon Street, before dying in a shootout with New Orleans Police.
Derrick was taken into custody Tuesday after several FBI vehicles arrived at a residence north of Emma. If convicted on all three charges, Derrick could face up to 40 years in federal prison without the possibility of parole.
