The City of Sedalia will re-bid a sidewalk project after the winning bidder said they were unable to finish it this year.

The city council voted last week to reject the bid that S & A Contracting had submitted last December, beating out three other bids to replace a number of sidewalks around the city. City administrator Matthew Wirt says the contractor is already involved in a number of projects for the city with deadlines approaching.

S&A had won the bid in January with a contract totaling $477,859.20. They’re already under contract with the city to complete the North Central Neighborhood Connect sidewalk project as well as four storm drainage improvement projects. Wirt says the city will go back out to bid to find a contractor able to start the project in the current fiscal year.

The request for bids listed 13 different sidewalk projects. S&A’s bid would have seen just three projects completed to stay within the $500,000 budgeted for this year’s repairs.
