The Marshall City Council approved the appointment of Peggy Sherman as the next council member from the second ward.
The council approved Mayor Craig Thompson’s nomination of Sherman during their 25-minute meeting Tuesday, May 19. Thompson says he looks forward to Sherman taking her oath of office at their next meeting June 2.
Sherman will fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Nathan Swisher in March.
Also receiving appointments were two new members to the Marshall Park Board, who will serve terms that expire in January 2028.
During his report, Thompson announced that the city and Marshall Public Schools had officially completed the transfer of the Eastwood School site to the city, as part of the agreement that saw most of the former Marshall Habilitation Center become the location of the district’s Northeast Campus.
Also Tuesday night, the council granted a slate liquor license renewals effective July 1, and agreed to waive a city ordinance thereby allowing the Marshall Chamber of Commerce to serve alcohol during their inaugural Goat Hill Fest, which will replace Booze, Burgers and Barbecue, the weekend of June 20. The council also adopted ordinances vacating a section of Grant Avenue along the new Marshall Energy Center and establishing an interconnect agreement with the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission.
