A Moberly man was arraigned Monday, May 18 on a charge that he helped one of two murder suspects avoid arrest.

24-year-old Skyler Powell is accused of hindering the prosecution of a felony, after he allegedly hid 20-year-old Alyana Mason at a Moberly residence the evening of May 7. Mason had been placed under arrest by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office that afternoon in connection with the disappearance of 16-year-old Kayla Huff, but allegedly stole the patrol car she had been placed in. Powell is accused of allowing Mason to hide where he was staying, and using a cutting instrument to sever the chain connecting Mason’s handcuffs. Law enforcement found Mason that evening at the residence and arrested her a second time. Over the weekend, officers seized the tool believed to have been used to break the handcuffs.

Powell was arrested and initially held without bond. Mason is now one of two suspects facing murder charges in connection with Huff’s death May 6. Mason along with 19-year-old Hunter Ames were also scheduled to appear in a Randolph County courtroom Monday afternoon for a bond review hearing.
