The Flame of Hope moved through the City of Moberly on Wednesday as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run traveling throughout the state until May 29.

The eleven-day relay covering more than 950 miles and finishes at the Special Olympics Summer Games Opening Ceremony in Kirksville on May 29. Community Relations Manager Scott McGarvey says the city’s route traveled down Morely Street. He notes the event had great support from area law enforcement agencies, including Moberly Police and the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run began more than 40 years ago in Kansas as a vision of Chief Richard LaMunyon, who wanted to give his officers an opportunity to participate in something positive. Today, the LETR is held in 50 states and 42 countries around the world.
