The New Franklin R-1 School Board held a discussion over the district’s preliminary budget for 2026-2027 during its meeting on Wednesday, May 20.

Superintendent Benji Dorson says there won’t be too many changes to the budget or the district, even with less state funding coming to New Franklin.

Dorson says the board will dive deeper into the budget during its next meeting in June. The 2026-2027 budget takes effect on July 1.

In other news, the board reviewed a list of maintenance projects taking place on campus this summer. These projects include Central Office renovations, plumbing work at the high school, and waxing and painting. Suggestions for handbook changes were also presented to the board.

Dorson also announced that the district is beginning summer school on Tuesday, May 26.
