The Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville honored fallen service members with a Memorial Day Ceremony at 9 a.m. Monday, May 25.

The ceremony welcomed attendees to the cemetery to honor the fallen veterans interred on the grounds. Cemetery Director Kelly Larkin says Memorial Day serves as an important reminder to preserve the memories of the nation’s veterans.

 

The keynote speaker for the event was Rear Admiral Stanton Thompson. Larkin says he was honored to have Thompson take part in the ceremony.

 

Also during the ceremony, Jerilyn “Jeri” Moore, spouse of Chief Master Sergeant Timothy Moore, was honored with a special flag presentation.The ceremony concluded with a rifle volley from members of the American Legion Post #223 and the retiring of the colors by Boy Scout Troop 415.

The cemetery notes all Memorial Day flags and flowers will be in place until Thursday, May 28.
